Skarnes Incorporated, a Plymouth, MN based company, has performed preventative maintenance on many existing conveyor systems. These maintenance agreements vary in frequency and levels of commitment on a case by case basis. It is our recommendation that systems receive a semi-annual review that entails a mechanical and electrical review of the common wear items to help provide reliable system performance on an ongoing basis.
Unlike an audit, where you observe the system, a preventative maintenance agreement includes hands-on improvements. For example, all drive chains will be adjusted appropriately, drives will be lubricated, and v-belts tightened. It gives the facility the comfort level that says because we have looked at it and made adjustments on a regular basis, we are confident that the common wear items will perform to meet your needs.
A question that commonly comes up is why? Why do I need a preventative agreement now when the system has been running for 10 years? This question almost answers itself: it's because it is 10 years old. Just take a moment to compare it to your car: as it ages it needs more maintenance. A person tends to listen to that transmission noise a little closer and notice that engine squeak a little more often as the car ages. We are offering to check your conveyor system on a regular basis to help extend the life of the system and keep that "car" running.
Conveyor Audits consist of a performance review. We include an electrical review for energy conservation and improvements to the system. There is also a mechanical review for worn and nonfunctioning parts. A detailed audit can identify loose connections in pneumatic controls, faulty connections in electrical systems all of which could be causing increased cost to operations and low productivity. We can supply OEM parts for all major brands. Audits assist with modernization to existing systems to improve productivity and extend the life of the system. System training is included with any upgrades to new and existing equipment.
